a new day

Well, that was one way to start a blog and not follow through. That also pretty much sums up my eating, weight loss, and exercise lately. Bad, no, flat out horrible.
Over the holidays I managed to only gain back 1 pound, but somehow put on about 5 in January. Very defeating.
It has been a vicious cycle of telling myself I will get up and exercise in the morning at 6:00. Morning rolls around and I decide I will work out once the kids are in bed. Evening arrives and I am tired and tell myself I will get up in the morning, etc.
It doesn’t help that it is Fah-Reezing outside and we are currently iced into our house. However, while I can’t get out to run, I could still be on the elliptical or doing a workout DVD.
Today I did something crazy, well not really crazy. I took before pictures. It is amazing how you can look in the mirror each day, know your clothes don’t fit, but still somehow live in denial of how unhealthy, overweight and out of shape you are.
I am still somewhat shocked at the pictures I took. It was somewhat a slap in the face. Wow, is that really what I look like? Did I really let it get this out of hand?
While I’m not ready to post those pictures online, I am going to post my measurements, as embarrassed as I may feel.
weight – 166lbs
waist (natural) – 35″
waist (belly button) – 36.5″
hips – 42″
thighs – (L) 25″ (R) 24.5″
arms – (L) 12.5″ (R) 12.25″
It makes me want to cry. I’m looking at today as my new “day 1.”
