Well, that was one way to start a blog and not follow through. That also pretty much sums up my eating, weight loss, and exercise lately. Bad, no, flat out horrible.
Over the holidays I managed to only gain back 1 pound, but somehow put on about 5 in January. Very defeating.
It has been a vicious cycle of telling myself I will get up and exercise in the morning at 6:00. Morning rolls around and I decide I will work out once the kids are in bed. Evening arrives and I am tired and tell myself I will get up in the morning, etc.
It doesn’t help that it is Fah-Reezing outside and we are currently iced into our house. However, while I can’t get out to run, I could still be on the elliptical or doing a workout DVD.
Today I did something crazy, well not really crazy. I took before pictures. It is amazing how you can look in the mirror each day, know your clothes don’t fit, but still somehow live in denial of how unhealthy, overweight and out of shape you are.
I am still somewhat shocked at the pictures I took. It was somewhat a slap in the face. Wow, is that really what I look like? Did I really let it get this out of hand?
While I’m not ready to post those pictures online, I am going to post my measurements, as embarrassed as I may feel.
weight – 166lbs
waist (natural) – 35″
waist (belly button) – 36.5″
hips – 42″
thighs – (L) 25″ (R) 24.5″
arms – (L) 12.5″ (R) 12.25″
It makes me want to cry. I’m looking at today as my new “day 1.”
Last week I had great intentions of getting back on track with my eating/exercising after letting Halloween and sugar throw me off course. I did pretty good on Monday and Tuesday, but quickly got wrapped up in the craziness of having 4 kids at the house. (Although the week went well, it is definitely a challenge to have two babies in the house!)
I’ve definitely been letting myself make up excuses for why I haven’t been eating as well as I should or why I didn’t find time to get even a quick workout in. The truth is, if I really want to do this, I will find a way to do it. I’m not the first person to have three kids of her own and an extra Monday-Friday. I’m not the only person whose hubster works long hours. I’m not the only person who finds it too dark to run early in the AM and too dark to run in the PM after the hubster gets home. We own a nice elliptical… there is no excuse to not at least jump on for a few minutes on busy days.
After feeling defeated and discouraged over the weekend I decided it would be helpful to write down some weekly goals that will help me stay accountable.
1. Track eating Monday-Wednesday, Friday – Saturday (Next week I plan on writing my goals on Sunday morning and don’t plan on tracking Thanksgiving eating🙂
2. Do Jillian’s 30 Day Shred 3 times
3. Jog/walk the ORRRC Turkey Trot (5 miles)
4. Work out a total of 6 times.
In an attempt to make lunches a little more interesting around our house I try to do something fun with the boys’ plates. In October we had lots of jack-o-lantern shaped lunches, but we hadn’t done anything fun in a few weeks.
Today when I asked the boys if they wanted a surprise lunch, Kellan said he wanted a turkey for lunch. “Like our pumpkins, mom!”
Ummm, jack-o-lantern = easy. Circle, face, stem, the end.
Turkey? I was clueless for a minute and then remembered the ever popular “hand turkey.” I’m sure you remember making one in preschool or kindergarten.
I quickly realized that my hand was too big for the bread I was using so I dug out a hand shaped cookie cutter.
I cut out two pieces of bread for each sandwich.
I also cut out cheese in the same shape.
Added carrots for feathers.
Finally, carrot shavings for the legs and nose, and a craisin for the waddle.
(We added some yogurt on the side!)
What do you do to spice up your kids’ lunches?
It’s that time of the year! Thanksgiving is next week, Christmas is right around the corner and BLACK FRIDAY IS IN 8 DAYS!!! Yes, I just yelled at you🙂
I hate crowds. I hate people touching me…but I push it all to the back of my mind one day a year because I LURVE me some Black Friday deals.
My sister and I have only been going for the past two years, and honestly, we don’t buy much. Its more the excitement of getting up WAY to early once a year to stand in the freezing cold with a zipper that doesn’t zip over your pregnant belly (oh wait, that was last year!), and no gloves, with a hot chocolate or coffee, with a bunch of strangers to attempt to get a great deal on some random things.
This year our budget is much, much smaller than previous years since, you know, I’m not working. So, in preparation for next Friday, I needs some extra cash moneys!
Every year I clean out a bunch of toys and things for Goodwill to make room for the ridiculous amount of gifts that will come into our home from family and friends.
Where does Craigslist come into play? As I’m going through things I have three piles – trash, Goodwill, and Craigslist.
Anything that I think I can sell for $10+ is going in the Craigslist pile. Here’s what went up so far this AM:
The Fisher Price Fun2Learn Laughtops are already spoken for AND I’ve got a few more things ready to go up!
Anything that doesn’t sell by the end of Saturday, I am dropping the prices on, and anything left next Wednesday is making the trip to Goodwill.
By next Friday, I’m hoping to have some extra $$$ in my pocket for shopping!

Do you use Craigslist? We’ve mostly used it in the past for curb alerts. Any tips?

The big kids are at preschool. Both babies are asleep. One may even be snoring.
I’m sitting in the quiet have my crack in a cup coffee.
I know that I should probably be getting a load of laundry done, or unloading the dishwasher, or squeezing in a quick workout. I can’t help but think this will probably be the only time the house will be quiet for the rest of the day, so I’m going to sit here with my coffee and have a date with Google Reader J
My grandparents are coming over this afternoon to help with the boys while I take Bennett for his 6 month appointment. I originally thought that I would take all four kids with me, and then realized that was crazy talk! I’m so thankful that my grandparents are still energetic enough to help out when I need them!
What is your crack in a cup? Mine is a Grande soy, no whip, white mocha. Yum!
Tomorrow my sister goes back to her job as a 1st grade teacher after taking the past four and a half months off with my nephew, Big T. This, my friends, means that starting tomorrow I will not only have my three hooligans to look after, but will also have a 4th child.
Two carseats to carry into preschool.
Four mouths to feed.
Eight buns to wipe.
I have a feeling I’m going to need A LOT of caffeine for the next few days as we adjust.
I don’t think I mentioned that I’m going to have to set an alarm for the first time in 6 months!
I think there will probably be plenty of this until we find our new groove:
I also know that their will be plenty of snuggles, books to read, walks to take, and love to share.
Wish me luck friends!
